Play the traditional game of Draughts with this John Adams set for two players. The game is played on an 8 x 8 chequered board using 12 white wooden draughts and 12 black wooden draughts. Each player begins with 12 pieces and tries to capture or block all of their opponent’s pieces.

The supplied cardboard playing board measures approximately 30 x 30 cm. Players use the dark squares of the board, moving their draughts diagonally towards the opposite side. An opposing piece can be captured by jumping over it into an empty square immediately beyond it.

Under standard British draughts rules, capturing is compulsory when a capture is available. If another capture becomes available immediately after a jump, the same piece continues jumping as part of a chain capture. This makes positioning important because a single move can result in several pieces being removed from the board.

When an ordinary draught reaches the far row of the board, it is crowned as a king. A king can move diagonally forwards or backwards and can also capture in either direction. The John Adams rules explain that kings still move one square at a time under British draughts rules rather than moving freely along an entire diagonal.

There are two ways to win. A player can capture every opposing draught, or win by leaving the opponent with no legal move. The rules are straightforward to learn, while planning moves, anticipating captures, protecting pieces and creating opportunities for kings introduce progressively more strategy as players become familiar with the game.

The John Adams Draughts set contains 24 wooden playing pieces in total, divided equally between the two players. The board and pieces provide everything required for a two player game, with no cards, electronic components or additional game equipment needed.
