Choosing a Nerf Blaster

Manual Nerf blasters are primed by hand and normally work without batteries. Motorised blasters use batteries to power the mechanism that fires the darts. The way the darts are loaded also changes from one blaster to another. Some darts are pushed directly into the front of the blaster, while other blasters use removable magazines or drums.

A magazine can be removed from the blaster for loading and then fitted back into place. A drum holds darts around a circular holder and can carry more darts on some blasters. Before ordering, check the minimum age shown for that blaster, whether batteries are needed, how many darts it holds and whether it uses a magazine, drum or direct loading. Hasbro lists many N Series blasters for ages 8+, while some Rival and Nerf Pro blasters are listed for ages 14+.

Nerf Darts and Compatibility

Nerf darts and rounds are not all interchangeable. N Series blasters use N1 darts, while Ultra blasters use Ultra darts. Nerf Rival blasters use Rival rounds and Nerf Hyper blasters use Hyper rounds. A refill made for one of these blasters may not fit or work correctly in another.

If you already have a Nerf blaster and need more ammunition, check the name of the Nerf series and the darts or rounds it uses before buying a refill pack. Two types of Nerf ammunition can look similar while being made for different blasters.

Nerf Age and Safety

Hasbro lists Nerf N Series blasters such as the Pinpoint and Infinite for ages 8+, and the Nerf Ultra Select is also listed for ages 8+. Nerf Rival blasters such as the Vision XXII-800 are listed for ages 14+, while the Nerf Pro GelFire Uproar and Nerf Pro Sender are also listed for ages 14+. Use the minimum age shown for the individual blaster when ordering.

Hasbro advises users not to aim Nerf blasters at the eyes or face. Eye protection is recommended for some Nerf blasters and required for others. Follow the warnings and instructions supplied with the individual blaster, including any instructions about the darts or rounds that should be used with it.

Do all Nerf darts fit every Nerf blaster?

No. Nerf uses several types of darts and rounds. N Series blasters use N1 darts, Ultra blasters use Ultra darts, and Nerf Rival and Hyper blasters use their own rounds. Check the ammunition named for the blaster before buying refills.

Can I use Nerf Elite darts in an N Series blaster?

No. Nerf N Series blasters use N1 darts. Nerf Elite darts and N1 darts are different, so an N Series blaster requires N1 darts.
