Players use the dark squares of the board, moving their draughts diagonally towards the opposite side. An opposing piece can be captured by jumping over it into an empty square immediately beyond it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eUnder standard British draughts rules, capturing is compulsory when a capture is available. If another capture becomes available immediately after a jump, the same piece continues jumping as part of a chain capture. This makes positioning important because a single move can result in several pieces being removed from the board.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWhen an ordinary draught reaches the far row of the board, it is crowned as a king. A king can move diagonally forwards or backwards and can also capture in either direction. A player can capture every opposing draught, or win by leaving the opponent with no legal move.
